The four sites for the Atlantic spotted dolphin lie in Macaronesia: three in Cape Verde — Boa Vista, Sal Island and Sal Rei, volcanic reef and wreck — and one in the Azores, the Princess Alice Bank, pure pelagic at 40 metres and requiring current diving. The water is around 23-24 °C and visibility runs from 20 to 30 metres.
