The Andean cat is endangered and all six areas where it is documented belong to the altiplano: Eduardo Avaroa and Sajama in Bolivia, Huascarán in Peru, Lauca and Los Flamencos in Chile and San Guillermo in Argentina. Huascarán and Los Flamencos are World Heritage, and Eduardo Avaroa, at 7,147 km², is the largest.
