The eighteen parks for the fire salamander are deciduous forests of central and southern Europe, and eight are biosphere reserves: the Northern Vosges contribute 1,300 km², Šumava 690 and the Cévennes 937. Four are World Heritage, among them Hainich, the German beech forest, and Plitvice. Karkonosze, at 56 km², is the smallest.
