Both manta rays documented in Indonesia are threatened: the reef manta is Vulnerable and the giant oceanic manta is endangered. They are recorded at 17 places, nearly all of them dives, among them Manta Ridge off Arborek, Cape Kri and Blue Magic in Raja Ampat, Sangalaki and the Derawan Islands, the Alor archipelago, Maratua and Komodo. Two are World Heritage sites.
