Wildlife by group and country
The seven French areas on this list are all in the mountains, and the four species confirm it: the alpine salamander and the alpine newt in Écrins, Vanoise, Mercantour and Queyras; the Pyrenean brook salamander, near threatened, in the Pyrenees National Park; and the fire salamander in the Cévennes and the Northern Vosges, both biosphere reserves.
Places come from reviewed species-place links; the species shown at each place are only those in this group.
