Highlight

Where Jane Goodall began in 1960 the longest-running study of wild chimpanzees in the history of primatology

Declared in 1968 over the reserve where the British primatologist Jane Goodall arrived in 1960, barely 26 years old, to begin what would become the longest-running field study of chimpanzees in the history of science, now in its seventh decade. It was here that she first documented tool use by wild chimpanzees, a finding of 1960 that forced science to redraw the line separating humans from the rest of the animals.
