National Park of American Samoa

Declared in 1988, it is the only United States national park south of the equator and one of the least visited in the whole system, reachable only by air from Honolulu or Apia. Unlike most American national parks, much of its territory remains the communal property of traditional Samoan villages, leased to the federal government under shared management agreements that respect the customary system of land tenure known as fa'a Samoa.
