A threatened group in a country
Three of Ecuador's ten threatened reptiles come from the Galápagos — the marine iguana, the land iguana and the giant tortoise — and that presence is what sets this list apart from any other on the mainland. Critically endangered are the giant South American river turtle, from Amazonian rivers, and the hawksbill. Four sea turtles, the American crocodile and the bushmaster complete it.
