A threatened group in a country
Romania has two critically endangered mammals and both are small: the common hamster and the European mink. The list mixes the Danube delta and the Black Sea — where the fin whale, the sperm whale and the Mediterranean monk seal come in — with three lowland species: the European ground squirrel, the giant noctule and the southern water vole.
