Wildlife by group and country
Twelve birds for six subantarctic areas, and half are penguins or albatrosses: the king, the gentoo, the macaroni, the chinstrap and the Adelie; the black-browed and the grey-headed, the latter endangered. The declared marine protected area reaches 1,240,000 km², the largest in the whole catalogue. Bird Island, at 5 km², is the smallest.
