Three of French Polynesia's four sites are atoll passes, and that is where the fauna gathers: Tiputa Pass at Rangiroa and the shark wall at Fakarava, plus the Bora Bora lagoon. The Fakarava atoll itself is also included as a 1,670 km² biosphere reserve. Of the six species, the great hammerhead is critically endangered.
