Rhyncholestes raphanurus
It could become threatened in the near future if current threats go unchecked.
The Chilean shrew opossum is a tiny marsupial of the temperate rainforest of southern Chile and neighbouring parts of Argentina, including the island of Chiloé. It belongs to the Paucituberculata, an extremely ancient order that was diverse in South America millions of years ago and of which only a few Andean species remain today. It has a long, mobile snout, small eyes and forward-projecting lower incisors with which it seizes invertebrates among the damp leaf litter.
