The mountains of Wales, and the peak of Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa
Declared in 1951, it is the historic park of Wales and since 2023 has officially recovered its Welsh name, Eryri (land of the eagles). It is dominated by the massif of Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa, the highest mountain in Wales and England, and the setting of Edmund Hillary's training before his ascent of Everest in 1953. The landscape preserves traces of the slate mining industry that shaped much of Welsh identity, today also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the neighbouring basin of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
