Designated an Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) in 2006, Admiralty Bay is managed jointly by Brazil, Poland, Peru and Ecuador, countries with active research stations on its shores, in an unusual example of multilateral international cooperation around the largest bay on King George Island, in the South Shetlands.
