Highlight

A limestone cave system more than 60 million years old, with stalactites growing at barely a centimetre every thousand years

Declared in 1974, it protects a system of more than 40 limestone caves formed over 60 million years ago, when the area was an underwater coral reef. Its stalactites and stalagmites, growing at an estimated rate of barely a centimetre every thousand years, demand a decent level of fitness to visit, since getting in means descending vertical ladders into the caverns.
