Guadalupe

Declared in 1989, Guadeloupe National Park protects the volcano of La Soufrière, known locally as the old lady, an active volcano whose last great phreatic eruption in 1976 forced the temporary evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the island. It has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1992, and its trails combine dense rainforest with fumaroles visible and reachable on foot almost to the summit itself.
