Seven of the Falkland Islands' ten threatened mammals are endangered and only three remain in the mildest category. Five are cetaceans, and with the Antarctic fur seal and the southern elephant seal the list is almost entirely South Atlantic. The three land species — huemul, southern river otter and marsh deer — come from mainland Patagonia.
