Centipedes and millipedes: arthropods with many segments and many legs.
Myriapods have a body divided into a head and a long trunk made up of numerous leg-bearing segments. Centipedes, with one pair of legs per segment, are fast predators with venomous claws beside the head; millipedes, with two pairs per segment, are slow and feed mainly on decaying plant matter. Despite their names, few reach a hundred legs and almost none a thousand, although in 2021 a millipede with more than thirteen hundred was described in Australia.
