Spiders, scorpions, mites and ticks: eight-legged arthropods.
Arachnids differ from insects in having eight legs, no antennae and no wings, and a body divided into two regions, the prosoma and the opisthosoma. Almost all are predators, and many digest their prey externally, injecting it with digestive juices before absorbing it. Spiders produce silk in glands in the abdomen and use it for far more than spinning webs: shelters, egg sacs, or threads on which their young travel through the air.
