One of the few places in England with official Dark Sky Reserve status from the International Dark-Sky Association
Declared in 1954, Exmoor combines coastal moorland and cliffs with one of the last wild strongholds of red deer in England. In 2011 it became the first dark sky reserve in Europe certified by the International Dark-Sky Association, thanks to the region's low light pollution, which has driven a growing astronomical tourism across its open moors.
