Protected since 1996, Edmonson Point holds a mixed colony of Adélie and emperor penguin, studied practically without a break since the nearby Italian Mario Zucchelli base was set up in 1985, which has produced one of the longest and most detailed population data series on both penguin species in the Ross Sea region.
