A threatened group in a country
Guides.taxonThreatened.mammals of Iraq
- 10 species
- Endangered: 1
- Vulnerable: 9
Nine of Iraq's ten threatened mammals are vulnerable and only the blue whale is endangered: a long list, but a shallow one. Three come from its short stretch of Persian Gulf — the dugong, the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin and the whale itself — and the rest is desert and marsh: three gazelles, the Nubian ibex, the Arabian oryx, the leopard and the smooth-coated otter.
