Latvia's twelve threatened fish split almost evenly between bony fish and sharks, and four of them are food fish: cod, haddock, horse mackerel and bluefish. The three critically endangered ones are the European eel, the European sturgeon and the tope. The powan is the only strictly freshwater species.
