Wildlife by group and country
Six of the eleven New Zealand birds on this list cannot fly — three kiwis, the critically endangered kakapo, the takahe and the weka — and four parks are World Heritage, led by Fiordland: 12,500 km². The kea and the kaka, both parrots, are endangered. Rakiura and Te Urewera, the latter holding legal personhood, complete the fourteen places.
Places come from reviewed species-place links; the species shown at each place are only those in this group.
