Where to see them

Did you know…?

  • The smallest monkey in the world, at some 100 grams; it feeds on tree gum.

    From

  • It is the smallest monkey on the planet: it weighs little more than a hundred grams, less than an apple.

    From

  • Its neck is so flexible that it can turn its head 180 degrees while clinging vertically to a trunk, which lets it watch for predators without changing position.

    From

  • Its drooping white moustache gave it its name, because it resembled that of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

    From

  • Its name comes from the German emperor Wilhelm II: the zoologist who described it gave it the epithet imperator half in jest, because its moustache resembled the Kaiser's, and the name ended up becoming official.

    From

  • It forms stable mixed groups with another tamarin species: they travel and feed together and share alarm calls, an interspecific alliance that works because each of them watches a different layer of the forest.

    From

  • It is one of the fastest-ageing primates known, and widely used as a biomedical model for the study of human ageing.
