Declared in 1974, Baritú is the northernmost national park in Argentina and one of the least visited in the country because it is so extremely hard to reach, with no direct road link to the rest of the Argentine network: getting there means a long detour through Bolivia. Its subtropical yungas, on the Bolivian-Argentine border, hold one of the last jaguar populations in north-western Argentina.
