Asia's second largest store of fresh water by volume after Lake Baikal, with which it shares a catchment
Declared in 1992, Lake Khuvsgul is Asia's second largest store of fresh water by volume after neighbouring Lake Baikal in Russia, with which it shares a catchment through the Selenga river system. Its shores are the traditional land of the Tsaatan people, one of the last reindeer-herding groups in the world, whose semi-nomadic way of life has come down practically unchanged for generations.
