Nahanni

Declared a national park in 1976 and, barely two years later, one of the first four natural sites ever inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list (alongside Yellowstone, the Galápagos Islands and Simien in Ethiopia). It protects the South Nahanni River, with four canyons reaching 1,000 metres deep and Virginia Falls, almost twice the height of Niagara. It is so remote that it can only be reached by light aircraft or after several days by canoe, which keeps it among the least visited and most intact wild places in North America.
