Declared in 1980, Palo Verde protects the most important seasonal wetland in Central America, which through the dry season concentrates up to 60,000 waterbirds of dozens of species, a gathering comparable to the great South American wetlands. It is one of the few places in Costa Rica where the jabiru nests, the largest stork on the entire American continent.
