Declared in 1993, Semuliki is the easternmost extension of the great Congo rainforest into Ugandan territory, sharing species typical of Central Africa that are uncommon in the rest of Uganda. Its sulphurous Sempaya hot springs reach boiling point and are traditionally used by local communities to cook eggs and plantains by dipping them straight into the water.
