Threatened species by country
Four of Hungary's eleven threatened species are critically endangered, a high share for so short a list. Three are migratory fish of the Danube basin — the European eel and the beluga and European sturgeons — and the fourth is a farmland rodent, the common hamster. Endangered are the freshwater pearl mussel and the European ground squirrel; among the vulnerable, the eastern imperial eagle.
