Nine of Uruguay's twelve threatened fish are sharks and rays, and five are endangered. It is an Atlantic shelf list: great white shark, shortfin mako, porbeagle, basking shark, thresher and two rays, the spotted eagle ray and the spiny butterfly ray. The tope is the only critically endangered one.
