Abisko

Declared in 1909, among the first national parks in Europe, Abisko owes its worldwide fame to a local weather phenomenon: nearby Lake Torneträsk creates an exceptionally dry microclimate with clear skies more often than the surrounding country, making the park one of the best documented places on the planet to watch the northern lights through the winter months, when near-permanent darkness makes them easier to see.
