Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons)

Declared in 1957 under the English name Brecon Beacons, in 2023 the park authority officially restored its traditional Welsh name, Bannau Brycheiniog, in a gesture of cultural and national reaffirmation that was also symbolic: the word beacon referred to old military signal fires, a meaning the park authority judged no longer representative of the natural character of the place.
