Highlight
The site of the successful reintroduction of Przewalski's horse, the only truly wild horse species surviving in the world
Declared in 1993, Hustai was the setting of one of the world's great species reintroduction successes: Przewalski's horse, the only truly wild horse species (never domesticated) surviving on the planet, had died out entirely in the wild by 1969, surviving only in zoos. From 1992 onwards, animals bred in captivity in Europe were progressively reintroduced at Hustai, and today the wild Mongolian population is several hundred strong.
