Khunjerab

Declared in 1975, Khunjerab protects the surroundings of the Khunjerab pass (4,693 m), the highest paved border crossing in the world, carrying the Karakoram Highway that links Pakistan to China, built jointly by the two countries between 1959 and 1979 across some of the most difficult mountain terrain on the planet. It is one of the last significant refuges of the snow leopard in Pakistan, alongside the Marco Polo sheep, whose spiral horns are among the largest of any wild animal in the world.
