Highlight

Dominated by the Lanín volcano, an almost perfect 3,776-metre cone, sacred to the Mapuche people

Declared in 1937 — one of Argentina's first national parks — Lanín is dominated by the volcano of the same name, an almost perfectly symmetrical cone of 3,776 metres held sacred by the Mapuche people, who still have communities and legally recognised territories within and around the park, under a management that increasingly draws on indigenous knowledge and traditional practice.
