Declared in 1988 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, Horton Plains end abruptly at World's End, an 880-metre sheer drop from which, on clear early mornings before the usual mist gathers, the ocean can be made out on the horizon. The plateau, above 2,000 metres, stands in sharp climatic contrast with the rest of this tropical island.
