Matobo

Declared in 1926, Matobo is celebrated for its granite formations, rounded by hundreds of millions of years of erosion, and for holding on the summit of World's View the grave of the British magnate Cecil Rhodes, founder of the colony that bore his name (Rhodesia, today Zimbabwe and Zambia) — a place of strong symbolic charge and political controversy, given Rhodes's part in the violent colonisation of the region. The hill itself has been sacred to the Ndebele people since long before Europeans arrived.
