Declared in 1975, its name in Shona means place of the elephants, reflecting how abundant the species has been in the region since historical times. The Chilojo Cliffs, of deep red sandstone rising above the Save valley, are among the most spectacular landscapes in the whole of Zimbabwe, and form part of the Great Limpopo transfrontier conservation corridor shared with South Africa and Mozambique.
