Putorana Plateau

Made a zapovednik (strict nature reserve) in 1988 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, the Putorana Plateau is nicknamed the Siberian Iceland for its extraordinary concentration of waterfalls — over a hundred documented — and its plateaux of volcanic basalt. It is crossed each year by the largest wild reindeer migration in the world, with over a million animals moving across the plateau in one of the greatest land migrations of mammals documented on the planet, comparable in scale to that of the African wildebeest.
