Declared in 1978, Pukaskwa is Ontario's only wilderness national park, protecting a stretch of the north shore of Lake Superior so remote that its interior can only be reached on trails of several days or by boat, with no road penetrating the park's core. Its rock formations more than 1,000 million years old and its pebble beaches polished by the swell of the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area keep it among the least visited protected areas in Canada.
