North Korea's list has two halves that never meet: five open-ocean sharks — the critically endangered tope among them — and a continental north-east Asian fauna with Blakiston's eagle-owl, the oriental stork, the red-crowned crane and Steller's sea eagle. The only amphibian is the Japanese giant salamander and the only reptile the Chinese softshell turtle.
