A threatened group in a country
Peru's twenty-three threatened mammals sort themselves by altitude: in the Andes, the Andean cat, the mountain tapir, two chinchillas, the Andean bear and the northern pudu; in Amazonia, five primates, the giant otter, the pink river dolphin, the Amazonian manatee and the lowland tapir. The Peruvian yellow-tailed woolly monkey, the only critically endangered one, lives between the two.
