One of the highest Bengal tiger densities in the world, around a fort more than 2,000 years old
Declared in 1968, Bandhavgarh holds one of the highest documented densities of Bengal tiger of any reserve in the world, on land dominated by a fort more than 2,000 years old — mentioned in the epic Ramayana — built on a rocky outcrop that commands the whole park, and which was the private hunting ground of the maharajas of Rewa well into the 20th century.
