Connemara

Declared in 1980, Connemara protects a landscape of peat bog, lakes and granite mountains in the west of Ireland that served as the setting for John Ford's The Quiet Man (1952), one of the most influential films in the international image of rural Ireland in the 20th century. It is also the home of the Connemara pony, a native Irish breed traditionally raised semi-wild on these same moors.
