Declared personally in 1962 by Ho Chi Minh, then president of North Vietnam, Cuc Phuong was the first national park in the whole of Vietnam, even before the country was reunified. It holds trees more than 1,000 years old and the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, which works on captive breeding of species such as Delacour's langur, endemic to Vietnam and listed as critically endangered, with a total wild population below 300 animals.
