Great Gobi Strictly Protected Area

Declared in 1975 and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1990, the Great Gobi Strictly Protected Area is the last refuge of the genuinely wild Bactrian camel and of one of the smallest and most threatened mammal populations on the planet: the Gobi bear, a brown bear subspecies adapted to life in open desert, with fewer than 40 known survivors anywhere in the world, all of them within this reserve.
