Ivvavik

Declared in 1984, Ivvavik was the first national park in Canada created as the direct result of a formal indigenous land claim agreement, the Inuvialuit Final Agreement, which recognised this Inuit people's rights of joint management over the territory. Its name means place of birth, or nursery, in Inuvialuktun, referring to the fact that it protects part of the calving grounds of the Porcupine caribou herd, one of the last great land mammal migrations surviving in North America.
