Los Haitises

Declared in 1976, Los Haitises protects a spectacular karst landscape of conical limestone hills rising straight out of extensive navigable mangroves, similar in geological formation to the tropical bay landscapes of South-East Asia, though developed entirely independently in the Caribbean. Its coastal caves preserve pictographs of the Taíno people, the island's first inhabitants before the European arrival, and its landscape has served as a filming location for both Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean, thanks to the almost prehistoric look of its rock formations under dense vegetation.
